LIGHTING UP VILLAGES IN SOUTHERN MINDANAO

The region of Mindanao in the southern Philippines is one of the most volatile regions in the country and also one of the poorest. The predominantly-Muslim Badjao and Tausug people, also known as "sea gypsies", live in stilted houses a few kilometers off the coast and have zero access to electricity. Shutter Republic is honored to be working with the NGO Liter of Light (www.literoflight.org) which aims to reduce energy poverty in the world's underprivileged regions through solar power. Here are some iPhone stills from the film shoot in Zamboanga, July 2015.
